Sunday Round-Up #10

We’ve reached double figures with the Sunday Round-Up, so it’s not quite the epic fail I feared it would be.

My abstract distraction this week is :

College. I just started this week, with “Freshers’ Week” and I really enjoyed it. My lectures don’t start until next week, so this week was just a couple of meetings in between all the meeting new people, joining all the societies, and nights out. The most notable nights out were the Traffic Light Ball and Headphone Disco.

I also found out there’s another Mark Walsh in my course, and with the same tutor as me. For feck’s sake!

I went in to meet my tutor, introduced myself and he said :

“Ah yes, the other Mark Walsh”.

The other feckin’ Mark Walsh? I’ll have you know I’m the original and the best sir! What are the odds of that though? There was even a mix-up in our chosen optional subjects. I was given the one he picked, and vice versa.

I’m sure there’ll be an in-depth college post soon enough.

Something that made me laugh this week :

Everyday Normal Guy by Jon Lajoie. Click that link for the Youtube video. Great satirical video, taking the piss out of all the rap bitches and hoes shit. You can’t beat the copious use of the word “Muthafucka”.

Here’s the opening few lines :

“I’m just a regular everyday normal guy…Nothin’ special bout me Mutha Fucka.
I’m just a regular everyday normal guy…When I go to the clubs I wait in line Mutha Fucka.
I’m just a regular everyday normal guy…I got $600 in da bank Mutha Fucka.
I’m just a regular everyday normal guy…And my sexual performances are average.”

Thanks to CB and TG who introduced me to this guy, he’s got some other hilarious songs, so check out his other stuff too.

Curses on :

Two things this week.

1. Dirty Pretty Things have split up.

A band I liked quite a lot, having seen them live before, met Carl Barat, and am going to see them again next month. However, they’ve decided to pack it in after this tour. The second album was a bit of a letdown, but it’s still sad to see them go. Especially since they’ve said that this isn’t paving the way for a Libertines reform. But it probably is.

2. Twenty Major has stopped blogging.

Ireland’s best blogger, and one of the few writers that can consistently make me laugh, has decided to call it a day. It’s quite sad really. He’s won a few awards with his blog and deservedly so, it’s just hilarious!

I’m pleased with :

I expected my Kings Of Leon album review to get a bad reaction (if any). Mainly because no review is ever accepted, and people will always disagree when it comes to something as subjective as music.

The first comment reply to my review began with : “Without doubt the most accurate review I’ve read (and i’ve read alot).

So that was nice. And I didn’t recognise the commenter, so perhaps he found me through google or something else.

A pointless anecdote from this week :

Earlier on I mentioned a person with the same name as me doing the same college course as me.

On Thursday I was in a meeting giving us a virtual tour of the college and all that, and being the social little butterfly that I am, began talking to the chap sitting beside me. We did all the usual conversation stuff (”What course are you doing? Where are you from?”) and after a while I mentioned the bit about someone doing the same course as me.

“Yeah the exact same name, Mark Walsh”

“Oh Mark! I know him! He’s the only other person from my school that’s coming to this college, so basically I’m with him the whole time”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah”

“Did he pick Law as his extra subject?”

“Yeah he did, how did you know?”

I went on to explain the whole mix-up from earlier.

I love when stuff like that happens!

Small world eh?

Great guy/gal of this week :

I’ve gotta give it to Twenty Major. Not only has he made me laugh so often during the time I’ve been reading his blog, but even his style of writing has influenced my own, and for that I’m grateful.

Twenty <3

Product/Service I like this week :

That “Rockstar” drink. This was being given out for free in college everyday. It’s an energy drink type thing, but comes in a 500ml can, like a beer can.

Two mornings I arrived into college feeling pretty horrible, a bus journey with a hangover is just not very nice. Both times a can of this stuff put me right back on top of the world. The only drawback was a few new acquaintances having to make sure I hadn’t started on the beer at 10am.

A quote :

Winston Churchill: Madam, you are ugly
Elizabeth Braddock: Sir, you are drunk
Winston Churchill: Yes, but in the morning, I shall be sober.

It’s commonly quoted, but is such a good quote. There’s a few variations of it but this one is my favourite. Churchill has some brilliant quotes.

Favourite song this week :

Peaches - by The Presidents Of The United States of America

I freakin’ love this band!

It’s a funny story how I found them actually. One Monday night in sixth year, I decided to sort some weekend plans, as I’d done nothing the previous weekend. Went and had a look on Ticketmaster to see if any decent gigs were on. Checked Tripod, a favourite venue of mine.

Saw this band. Had never heard of them before. Downloaded their stuff, and really liked them. Picked up a ticket and went (yes, on my own). Got nice and drunk and really enjoyed the gig.

Now one of my favourite bands.

The video for this song is good, with ninjas and everything. A lot of their stuff is tongue-in-cheek style so do bear that in mind.

Enjoy.

And so ends another Sunday Round-Up.

Spot-on about Twenty; he’s gonna be missed a great deal. I admire his reasons for stepping down, though - he doesn’t want to the blog to grow stale and would rather go out on a high.

Just as long as you don’t go quitting now, Mark ;)

  2. Dankoozy Says:

Does that rockstar stuff taste good?

  3. Mark Says:

Colin : Yeah, his reasons were understandable. No such worries for me though, I’ll be milking this shit for everything I can!

Dankoozy : I quite like it, but most people I’ve talked to about it consider it to be “rank”.
