Leaving Cert Results - Epic Win
Just home from collecting my Leaving Cert results, and I’m feeling good!
I did better than expected. My hands were shaking when I was opening the envelope, and I was shaking even more when i saw my results! Without further ado, here they are.
Irish - Higher Level - B3
English - Higher Level - A1 (boo yeah!)
Maths - Higher Level - C3
History - Higher Level - A2
Geography - Higher Level - A2
French - Higher Level - B1
Physics - Higher Level - C1
Total Points : 510 (from a possible 600)
Oh hell yeah! Anything over 500 is considered a huge achievement, so I’m absolutely delighted. Last year the points for my course were 480, so it looks promising, but nothing is guaranteed.
I’m still in shock, I really didn’t expect to do so well.
I had my photo taken for the local newspaper too, so I may well be in that next week.
Any other leaving certers reading, let me know how you got on!
Right so, I’m off to get disgustingly drunk!

Wow, congratulations Mark! That is a fantastic achievement! Really impressive!
Best of luck with the CAO results and enjoy yourself tonight.

Mark, you’re such a bright spark! Fair play, that’s class…
I’m so sickened I didn’t get an A1 in english
But overall i whooped your ass with my 550
*sob*
Still have to repeat

Jennie : Thanks a lot
You had to beat me didn’t you?! Repeat? Surely some of your lower CAO choices would suffice?

Don’t see a good night wasted - dress sensibly. I suggest rain gear.

Well done!

[...] their results did exceptionally well. Some got way better results then they thought, especially Mark Walsh who got an astounding 510 points out of a maximum 600! Congrats [...]

August 13th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

Congrats Mark! Well deserved, have a drink on me!
@Ciara - Don’t be thinking like that, if you look at Marks subjects they’re all Higher Level - which gives the most points (obviously!). I’m presently doing 60/40 to Higher Level so don’t expect to achieve anything like his (although if I did I’d be chuffed!). I’m doing Ord Level in Maths and Irish to be safe rather than sorry!

Primal, Monty, Ruth : Thanks all.
Meh : Frankly you can fuck right off. I’ve been posting on here for months about my Leaving Cert, it’d have been fucking stupid not to actually say how I got on in the end. This blog is about my life, and these results are a big part of that. I was in no way looking for compliments. Pretty cowardly of you not to give a real name or email. And usually I would expect someone who “did a lot better than that” to be able spell the word “compliments” correctly. Who cares what I got? Perhaps the people that have been reading about this whole thing for the past few months. Argh!
Ciara : That’s a great result, what course are you hoping to do?
Aaron : “Better safe than sorry” indeed. 5,000 people failed maths this year, you don’t want to risk being one of those.

Arts in ucd but the points were 345 last year so not sure if i’ll get it, unless the points go down
August 14th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Ciara : There’s a good chance you’ll get it, I’ve my fingers crossed for you anyway!
August 14th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Congratulations Mark, and everyone else.
What course are you planning on doing? Enjoy college, it’s probably the easiest 4 years ever created! But that depends on your course too, a little bit. If you study something like surfing or speech and drama you can expect a tough ol’ ride

510 is a nice return, those few months on blog neglect seem to have paid off in the real world
August 15th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Ha, you got whooped by a culchie woman. You did beat me in history though.
August 15th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Corman : Cheers. Hoping to do BESS in Trinity, Monday morning will tell me whether or not I’ve gotten it!
Smemon : Sure has man, I’m glad I made the little sacrifice!
Helena : Quiet you culchie. I was always terrible at History, got a D in the mocks. I’m shocked with that A!

Good job! I really hope you get your course, you deserve it! You have entertained me throughout the year after all
I got 8 A1s…suitably delighted
It’s so weird to think it’s all over though [[not that I'm sorry!]], this whole Leaving Cert crap has been such a big part of our lives for so long.
Meh, bring on college!
Oh, and did you get KOL tickets? I *just* managed to. It’s a seated ticket and seperate from my friends but feck it, Kings of Leon!!
August 16th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Sinead : 8 A1s? That’s amazing, congratulations! You’ve been reading all year and haven’t made yourself known to me? Disgraceful! What course are you doing?
I didn’t get tickets in the end
I had trouble getting them Friday morning, and they only had seating tickets left when I tried on Thursday after getting the presale password. I’m hoping to get tickets off someone in the coming months, there should be a few going around.

Thanks
Yep, I have been reading but I’ve been terribly lazy when it comes to actually commenting on blogs and message boards and the like. Now that I have all this extra free time though, I’ve decided to make a bit of an effort
Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences in UCD should be what I’m accepting tomorrow morning…I keep getting paranoid that I made a mistake filling out the aul CAO though and that I’ll get offered something else or nothing at all >.<
Damn these LC nightmares!
Hmm, rage about the tickets - you should be able to buy one closer to the time though. I’m kinda hoping that I’ll be somehow able to leap out of me seat and go to the standing section at some point…I’m not sure what the new set up is going to be in The Point.
August 18th, 2008 at 7:07 am
Sinead : Glad to hear you’re willing to give something back now
Your course sounds good, you obviously deserve it too! I had those CAO worries too, but I’ve just accepted my course so it all went alright in the end!
Seated tickets are better than no tickets at all anyway! I hope The Point is actually decent now, the sound wasn’t the best before.
