Y'alright?

A “busy” day, and tomorrow’s blog plans.

I feel like I’ve had a busy day, but really, it’s just because I’m so damn lazy over these Christmas holidays that leaving the house at all feels like an accomplishment. I got up early this morning so I could sign for the delivery of a book I’d ordered off Adverts.ie. I’d missed it the day before since I was knocked out in bed, and if I missed it again today I’d have to travel to pick it up. So at 9am I stumble out of bed and go down to sleep on the couch until it gets delivered, which it did around 10am. The book is about starting a business in Ireland.

I wasn’t actively looking for such a book, but came across it for sale for €10, and thought it’d come in handy, so whynot? The price tag on the back said €17 aswell, so I did get a decent deal, especially since the book was brought by courier to my door (a perk of the seller’s job apparently). I paid by paypal too, incase anyone’s wondering. Haven’t started reading through it yet, and probably won’t anytime soon unless I’m bored or need to for some reason.

After that it was down to the barbers, and then a nutrional breakfast of a wedges roll from Centra  I thought I was great for getting up so early, and that I’d get a lot done during the day. But of course, what happens when I get home? I fall asleep till 5pm.

Tomorrow I’m gonna sort out the remaining problems with this new theme. Here’s the checklist.

  • Begin looking for a design for the header.
  • Sort the blogroll
  • Sort some ads
  • Find a way to do the “archive” page. I want something like what Tyler Cruz and John Cow have on theirs, so if anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. I think there’s a link on one of those about it, but I’ll investigate fully tomorrow.
  • Decide on these two “Favourite Posts” and “Most Commented Posts” things at the top. I have to change some coding so these are actually accurate, as right now they’re only showing the latest posts. I don’t want most commented in there any. So I’ll either find a way to change that to “Recent Posts”(will require making a new image for it), or if there’s a lot of hassle involved, I’ll get rid of those things, cos they’re not all that important to me anyway. I reckon I should be able get them fixed though.
  • The “Subcribe” button at the side. I have a great button that came with this theme, but don’t know how to incorporate it, as the email form coding was a little confusing. If anyone can help me with this I’d greatly appreciate it. I doubt it’s that difficult for someone who isn’t as coding retarded as I am.
  • The time/date of posts. Currently posts are followed by something like this : “posted by Mark posted on 2nd, 2008 at 03:18 pm”. I want to have the month in there. This was a problem with the last theme too, and I fixed it. I tried the exact same thing this time, and I’m almost sure it worked at first, (as I declared myself a genius to a friend of mine on MSN at the time) and then a while later, back to the way it was. So I tried again, and got nothing. Also, the timing of posts is completely off, so I want to sort that out. I’m pretty sure Smemon can help me with this, so please do man!
  • [edit] Right I’ve just discovered an issue with the page layout when you go to view a post on it’s own or post comments. Argh!
  • Any other problems I think of between now and then, or anything you guys remind me of.

So I’m hoping for a few helpful comments here, don’t disappoint me!

And if I fail to complete these tasks without good reason, then there’s $10 going to one of the people to comment this post. I’ll pick one of the commenter’s randomly. That should encourage some of you to comment anyway!

Here is what I used for a site.

hmm… the date thing you’re looking for is a simple bit of code, can’t come up with it off the top of my head, but i’ll email you later ;-)

The timing issue can only really be two things; your server time or your blog time. I’m assuming you’ve set your blog time (in wordpress admin panel) to UTC which is our time at the minute (UK). The time thing played havoc with my blog once upon a time, it may not be as simple as changing a few values. It wasn’t for me!

There’s a plugin that may help though; http://kimmo.suominen.com/sw/timezone/
