Pagerank Updates
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days folks, must be the longest I’ve gone without posting in quite a while!
Anyway, there’s been some big news in the webmaster world since my last post. Google have done a pagerank update, which is always interesting to say the least. My main concern would obviously be this blog, since it’s currently the only site I consistently run and will never sell.
The blog went from Pagerank 2 to a Pagerank 3.

One of my other sites, webmasterdiscounts.com is now a PR3. This is great and all, but it’s grossly inaccurate. The site has a few posts and even less links. Not many readers, and the site’s down right now (I’ve a post on this coming tomorrow). And it’s ranked the same as this blog or those other blogs above?
Tyler Cruz has a visible hand print on his face after the hand of Google gave him a firm slap and stripped him of his PR3 all the way down to PR0. This annoys me. Whatever about Google disliking paid reviews or whatever, the fact is his site is much better and more popular than many others that now have a PR, and he deserves to be ranked as such.
A friend of mine then gave us the biggest shock of all. His blog is very new, (I bought him the domain for Christmas) and has 3 or 4 posts. The only links to the site are from this blog, or perhaps if he left his link in comment on other blogs, as far as we know anyway. His new pagerank? Four. PR4. It really defies belief, with the following stats :
Traffic Statistics
Alexa Traffic Ranking: 1,747,356
Google PageRank: 4
Average of 197 backlinks from major search engines.
For comparison purposes, these are my stats :
Traffic Statistics
Alexa Traffic Ranking: 220,663
Google PageRank: 3
Average of 16,670 backlinks from major search engines.
I’m happy for my friend (and for me, I still own the domain
) but this really shows that there is some sort of flaw in Google’s new algorithm for calculating pagerank. It’s starting to become meaningless. Or maybe he’s got a secret admirer owning a pr10 page and felt a little generous
As for John Chow, the future president of the US, who has repeatedly felt the wrath of Google and still manages to come out smiling, his PR on my toolbar is showing as 0, but website PR checks are showing it as PR4, so I’m not quite sure what’s going on there.
As always, the Pagerank update has brought discussion amongst webmasters, but since seeing these results, I haven’t particpated much or taken too much interest, since only Google could clarify their new methods, and they don’t seem to keen on doing that.
