Okay, I’ve pretty much missed out on two days of the Mid-term to study, since I did nothing today or yesterday.
So, here’s the written work I have to do.
- French - Grammar work (will take a long time to get it all done)
- Maths - A few questions (not too much)
- Irish - Notes on a poem (not much)
- History - Notes and a Mindmap (Medium)
Then obviously I have to study for my November exams.
The plan is to get this work out of the way tomorrow. Then, tomorrow I’m going to post up my study plans for my seven subjects for the next few days.
The potential problem is that I’m going out now, which always brings the possibility of staying overnight, which generally messes up the next day. I’m willing to take the risk, have more fun now and work twice as hard afterwards .

Of my Google Adsense PIN number, it arrives the next day. I must admit it was damn good seeing a letter with Google’s logo on it addressed to me. Made me even more excited about getting the cheque.
I had to take pictures didn’t I?

For once, Monday morning wasn’t so bad. Because it’s the first day of a full week off from school. Ah, mid-term.
Unfortunately I have some actual school work to do during the course of the week, and I’m expected to study for the upcoming November exams too. Still, I’m sure I’ll be able to get a little work done and still have a good week. I’m working today at 3pm, but I get double pay, so it’s well worth it. Then I’m not in again until Sunday, so I’m very happy, I specifically asked my boss to give me as little hours as possible.
I’m hoping to get some proper plans down on this blog later tonight, so as to have some sort of guide for the week. Otherwise, I know I’ll just completely waste the time off and just end up sleeping 18 hours a day or something.

I never received my Google Adsense PIN number in the post, and it was supposed to arrive before 26th October. So I’ve had to request a new one be sent out, which is unfortunate, as it means I may be waiting way longer to receive my first cheque. As soon as I get my PIN number, I enter it online and then my cheque can be sent out at the end of the month.
Boo-urns to all the waiting though.

Finally, after all this time, Google have done/are still completing their pagerank update. I didn’t even notice this until a day after it had actually happened.
The results?
This site - walsho.net - a PR 2. I’m happy with this. Considering I haven’t done too much work in terms of getting a good pagerank, I’m actually very happy with this. I have to make sure that I continue to develop the site so I not only maintain this PR, but increase it.
Surprisingly, feckschool.com is a pr1. I didn’t expect this to get pr at all, so I’m happy with that.
My old forum, petedohertyforum.com jumped to a pr3. Am I regretting selling? Perhaps.
Smemon is just getting messed about by google! They put him from pr3 to pr2 a few days back, then decided, ah sure he’s a good lad, so put him up to pr4. Congratulations to him on that.
I’ll have to check all the sites I’ve ever owned, just to see if they somehow managed a pagerank increase.
Another good note is that Warren’s blog has increased to a pr1.
Oddly enough, Google has taken Youtube, a site they own, down from pr8 to pr3. I can’t see this being longterm, but it’s still very odd.
Overall I’m happy with the update. Let’s hope the next one doesn’t take so long.
EDIT - Somehow, my Flight Of The Conchords fansite that I never developed, siteoftheconchords.com, has gotten a pr1. I think it’s now time to actually make that site.

Last night I was at NUIM for some lectures about college courses and the jobs you can get afterwards. Well I should have been.
The story was that each person went to two lectures, one at 7.30 and one at 8.30. My first one was Information Technology and Computers.
I thought this was absolutely awful and completely useless. Firstly there weren’t many there, which I was surprised. Then, of those who were there, I’d say about 50% of them were scumbags who were in that room because A) they couldn’t find the room they were meant to be in so just rambled in and hoped for the best or B) They think they can do computers because they love going on bebo.
Of course some people there seemed to know what was going on, but so many scumbags there (half of whom were arriving late) really annoyed me. Sorry buddy, I think you’re looking for advanced knackerism down the hall there.
The talk itself was just by these two women who work in IT Alliance. I got absolutely nothing out of it. It was basically them talking utter shite about their company then giving stories about how different employees had come to work there. I was under the impression that this lecture would have been a nuetral broad view of the course and what to do with it, not a recruiting effort from some company.
Next up for me was Sales and Marketing, which was pretty packed, and should have been held in one of the lecture rooms instead of the shitty classroom we were thrown into. The guy talking to us was actually very very good. It seemed he hadn’t done anything of the sort before, as he asked a few times if how he was going about it was okay with us, and generally looking for a response more than most lecturers seem to do.
But he was experienced in his field. He was a genuine salesman/marketer who was doing pretty well. He had a pretty interesting backstory too. He was dyslexic (which let me forgive the 3 or so spelling/grammar errors I’d spotted in his powerpoint presentation!) and joined the army at fourteen after forging his birth cert. I also liked the classy suit he had on.
He taught me a few things, and reiterated a few things I’d learned from my online work, so I knew he wasn’t a bullshitter. I think everyone came out of that agreeing that it was a worthwhile talk and we’d learned something.
Also, with the salary sums I saw in there, I’m really considering a career in sales/marketing, so he really did a good job.
Apologies for the language of this post, but some of the stuff at the start really did annoy me (thus, I’ve filed this under “Ranting” also).

There’s some lectures in Maynooth college night for 5th and 6th years in secondary school. Every person attends two talks each, and there chose which ones they wanted from a list given to us.
I’m going to Information Technology/ Computers, and then Marketing & Sales. It should be interesting to see what I learn from these as I’m still very undecided as to what I want to do in college. NUIM is a good college, and a quick bus ride from where I live, which is handy. The social life there is supposedly pretty good too, so I’m seriously considering going there. Hopefully tonight won’t just be a complete waste of time.

I have a BlogRush widget at the side of this blog. This has the potential to bring a lot more traffic to the blog. For complete details, see their site.
Anyway, recently they cut down on the amount of blogs in their network, so as to have a general higher quality of blogs.
Here’s the relative part of the email they sent to those who are still in the network.
——————————
——————————-
Congratulations!
————————————————————-
You are receiving this update because your blog has passed our strict
Quality Guidelines and criteria — we believe you have a high-quality
blog and we are happy you’re a member of our network!
————————————————————-
10,000+ Blogs Removed From BlogRush
————————————————————-
We’ve just completed a massive SWEEP of our entire network. We’ve
removed over *10,000* blogs (Yes, ten thousand) that did not meet our
new Quality Guidelines.
We have done a huge “quality control audit” of our network and have
reviewed all the blogs one-at-a-time. We will continue to review each
NEW blog that is ever submitted to our network.
You will notice the HUGE DIFFERENCE in the quality of blogs that now
appear in your widget. This major *sweep* of our network will also
increase the click-rates across the entire network and you will start
to receive more traffic.
Now I doubt they were that strict with the cutting down, but it’s still nice to make the cut, it’s a bit reassuring or something I suppose.

Major bloggers have been hit today by Google dropping their pageranks. JohnChow was hit before, dropping from pr6 to pr 5, and is now on the way to pr4. At first people assumed this was Google hitting back for people buying or selling paid links, but these recent updates have a lot of us confused. Some other blogs, such as problogger.net haven’t been doing this, yet their rank dropped from 6 to 4 today. Even a blogging friend of mine, Smemon seems to be dropping from pr3 down to pr2. This is very disappointing for me to see his PR drop, I don’t understand why it happened. Google seem to be flaunting their power and revising their rules or algorithms to hit back at those who have taken advantage of them.
We still don’t know if we’re getting a full pr update, since they only seem to be dropping pr’s. I wont know for sure until I hear other people confirm it, as this blog is a PR 0. I should be getting at least a pr1, but with the developments lately, who knows?
